Heat Sign Rookie Daequan Cook

Daequan Cook will be at Miami’s Summer CampWell, that did not take too long! The Miami Heat and Daequan Cook announced today that they have agreed to terms and signed a contract. Cook was a guard at Ohio State only for one year. He is slated to earn about $2 million for the first 2 years, and if the Heat exercise their option, he will be making $4 million. This mean that Daequan Cook will be able to participate with the Miami Heat’s summer league team.

Kapono Heads for the Border

Jason Kapono shoots from 3Not South of the border, but North; to Toronto. The ex-Heat sharpshooter became the first NBA player to officially agree to sign with a new team this Summer. The deal is rumored to be worth about $24 million over 4 years. This will be the fourth team for Jason Kapono; he was previously a member of the Cavaliers and the Bobcats. Kapono was a fantastic threat from behind the arc for the Heat this past season (shooting 51.4%) and he will be sorely missed.

Shaq’s new show debuted!This article was originally scheduled to be put down before Shaq’s new show Shaq’s Big Challenge premiered June 26th at 9pm, but unfortunately yours truly was in an accident last week and I haven’t been able to sit still since. All of that is out of the way now, so a quick word on Shaq’s new show…I missed it. I know, I know, a Heat fan like myself missing an opportunity to watch the big daddy in action, especially his live reality stuff (I loved him in that series ESPN had a while back).

Wade Hoping to Make Training Camp

Dwayne Wade Soaring for the DunkIt has now been about 5 weeks since Dwayne Wade underwent surgery to repair both his left knee and left shoulder. If the Miami Heat are to have any hope of being a contender for the upcoming season, they will need Wade to be full strength. The former Finals MVP, who proved capable of carrying the team when healthy, has been showing marked signs of improvement lately. While he still has a long way to go in the rehab process, he is confident that he will be ready for next season.

So Long Stan! It’s Been A Great Run.

Stan Van Gundy Screaming On The CourtStan Van Gundy was recently “traded” to the Orlando Magic, thus ending his tenure with the Miami Heat. He only coached one full season for the Heat (2003-2004), but that was a memorable one. Dwayne Wade was a rookie, we had a dynamic Lamar Odom, and a fast paced, high octane offense. Indeed, it is a world apart from the team’s current make-up. It was an exciting year with an amazing playoff run in which the Heat nearly advanced to the Conference Finals. And for all of that, we owe Stan a tremendous thank you.
