So Long Stan! It’s Been A Great Run.

Stan Van Gundy Screaming On The CourtStan Van Gundy was recently “traded” to the Orlando Magic, thus ending his tenure with the Miami Heat. He only coached one full season for the Heat (2003-2004), but that was a memorable one. Dwayne Wade was a rookie, we had a dynamic Lamar Odom, and a fast paced, high octane offense. Indeed, it is a world apart from the team’s current make-up. It was an exciting year with an amazing playoff run in which the Heat nearly advanced to the Conference Finals. And for all of that, we owe Stan a tremendous thank you.

I was always a big fan of Stan (sorry about the rhyme). I mean, he constantly looked kinda stressed and worn out, but at least he wasn’t as bad as his brother. As for his new position with the Magic, I believe that they are going to do tremendously well. They have who I consider to be the next Shaq (really…) in Dwight Howard and a fantastic young point guard in Jameer Nelson. This team will be going places and Stan could be the man (sorry again) to take them there. He was fantastic with a group of young talent in Miami and I see no reason why he won’t be good in Orlando. I will definitely be rooting for the Magic, save for when they play the Heat. Good luck Stan!

Oh, and in case you were wondering what the Heat traded Van Gundy for, it was the 39th pick in the NBA draft. With this year’s draft class, that is still a fantastic place to pick. Then again, the Heat could be trading any and all of their picks for some veteran help. I will talk more about that in a later series.
