Riley Speaks and HeatNation Listens

Pat Riley is here to stayWhen the Federal Reserve Chairman speaks, the stock markets usually calms down. And so when Pat Riley speaks, we the Heat fans also calm down. Besides receiving the good news that he will be staying, at least for the next few years, as the Heat’s head coach, he also had quite a bit to add about everything else going on with the team. One of the greatest inspirational coaches of all time, Riley may be just as important an asset as any other free agent signing.

The New Look Heat Back Court

New Look

Question: Do the Heat need to get older players?
Pat Riley: Hell yeah!

In addition to adding Penny Hardaway recently, the Heat picked up Smush Parker from the Lakers and they (duh) drafted Daequan Cook. So besides having stacked the ages of their new guards from young to old, did the Heat get any better at that position? They definitely needed point guard help, but will these players cut the mustard?

Finally, we get to see some real NBA Talent!

FIBA AmericasThat’s right folks! The first NBA action of the year is coming up this week! And no, the Summer League stuff didn’t really count. And besides it was fairly boring stuff. Well, finally the big boys are coming out of their Summer slumber to play some real basketball; or at least a strange, wimpier European version of basketball. Either way, even if D-Wade won’t be playing (obviously still recovering from injury), I am just itching for some action. The FIBA Americas qualifying tournament starts this Wednesday, so read on to check out the schedule!

Can You Feel the Heat? I Already Am!

YouTubeI am getting more and more excited for the season to start. Even though I am having doubts about the Miami Heat’s Offseason so far, I still cannot wait for the season to begin. Even if Miami does not land any new players, I still know that the team will be exciting to watch. Hell, any team with Dwayne Wade and Shaq would be exciting; besides also having a chance to win every game as long as they are both healthy. Then, add to that the building buzz that Dorell Wright is generating this offseason. I mean, he hardly plays, but when I have seen him, he has been just a phenomenal athlete. And if he has been working on his jumper and the 3, I just can’t wait to see him in action. All of that being said, here is a great highlight reel from the 2007 season that I found at YouTube. It was made by M.Y.K.

However, if you disagree with what I come up with, feel free to leave a scathing comment! This post is just an intro to the Tournament and will explain how I am rating all of the players. I am also going to describe the format of the tournament. So, let’s get on to the rules!

  4. Offseason Moves Series: Draft Day

Offseason Moves SeriesDaequan Cook. Technically, the Heat did not draft him, but after a bit of wheeling and dealing, that is who the Heat ended up with. Miami originally picked Jason Smith, the man with the most boring name ever. But after being a member of the Heat for all of five minutes, Smith was traded to Philadelphia for their pick, Daequan Cook. The Heat really needed some help in the athleticism department, but can Cook deliver?

Offseason Moves Series: Guard

Table of contents for Offseason Moves

  1. Offseason Moves Series: Center
  2. Offseason Moves Series: Forward
  3. Offseason Moves Series: Guard
  4. Offseason Moves Series: Draft Day

Offseason Moves SeriesWith a banged up Wade and an aging roster, the Heat could not make it past the youthful Chicago Bulls. In my estimation, it was a lack of scoring ability that killed the Heat; especially at the guard position. This is the position that Heat need some major improvement. They feature one incredibly bright star along with… well, there is nothing but Dwayne Wade. So should this be a place to pick up a young player? Should we trade for someone with ability now? Let’s analyze this situation…
