It has now been about 5 weeks since Dwayne Wade underwent surgery to repair both his left knee and left shoulder. If the Miami Heat are to have any hope of being a contender for the upcoming season, they will need Wade to be full strength. The former Finals MVP, who proved capable of carrying the team when healthy, has been showing marked signs of improvement lately. While he still has a long way to go in the rehab process, he is confident that he will be ready for next season.
However, as of now, Wade is not sure whether he will be participating in the team’s training camp this October. Still being in the early stages of rehab, it is difficult to say how long the process will take. “I’m a hard worker. I know I’m going to do everything that they tell me to do to get back to the point I need to be back to,” Wade said. “I was never worried about that. That comes with the territory of playing sports. You’re going to have to have surgery to get yourself back.”
Wade is obviously not where he wanted to be. Earlier this season, when he first suffered the shoulder injury, he made the decision to rehab and come back for the playoffs. Unfortunately, the lackluster Heat were swept in the first round and Wade’s heroic gesture was for naught.
Wade knows that the surgery rehab is going to be one of the hardest things he has ever done. One surgery to recover from is enough, but 2? That is simply a grueling, nearly impossible task. But Wade is more than up for it. “No crutches for me. I’m tougher than that.” This is a man who was bedridden for five days and even now can barely get around. Ultimately though, he is happy that he did both of the procedures. Now he and Heat fans can only hope and wait to see if he can be the same great player that willed a championship for Miami.
